Abstract

For nearly three decades, the end of hostilities between Spain and the Netherlands in 1648 normalizes diplomatic and trade relations between the two powers, broken in 1621. This event has important political and economic implications while still not been studied in detail. The objective of this paper is to analyze of goods records made by the Spanish consul in Amsterdam, the Dutch trade in spices in Spain as a starting point for understanding the commercial exchanges between two powers, as well as to study the Dutch distribution networks during the second half of the 17th century.
