The present article deals with the different reasons that determined the decline of Spain in the late eighteenth century. Specially, when they are viewed by an Englishman, like Alexander Jardine, whose country had gone through several deep changes and was becoming the most powerful nation in Europe. An example to imitate not only for its economic development but also for the political system, after the triumph of the so-called Glorious Revolution one century before.
