Following a short consideration of the origins of scholarly interest on business archives in Great Britain, this article presents a brief description of the nature and content of one of the most singular business archives in the City: the Rothschild Archive. In the first place, the reader can find a succinct History of Nathan Mayer Rothschild Sons of London, from its foundation in 1798 to the present, with information on the organization, financial and commercial activities, and the geographical distribution of the interests of these 19th Century bankers. Later some attention is given to the nature, organization and content of the different series of documents held by the archive. Particular consideration is paid to the Rothschilds relations to Spain and her colonies, due to its special interest to Spanish scholars, who can also find in this paper a selected and up to date bibliography on the Rothschids.
