Abstract

Agrarian parties played an important role in Central and Eastern Europe during the Interwar Period. French diplomats in the region were aware of their rise, but their analysis was biased by prejudice and stereotypes associated with the peasantry and the national characters attributed to the different countries. Using primary sources, an imagological approach is adopted with regard to this neglected topic.
