This article examines the evolution of noble archives by means of a series of examples taken from the archives preserved in the Sección Nobleza if the Archivo Histórico Nacional. It examines archives preserved in their entirety from their origins, and archives that absorb other noble titles through marriage, legal cases, or extinction of the hereditary line. It discusses reversion of titles to the Crown, the fragmentation of archives through disentailing, the reconstruction of archives by the family or in public centers, and institutional, family or individual records preserved in noble archives.
