This article addresses the reconstruction of the library holdings that the emperor Charles V had in Spain, both in the monastery of Yuste and in the castle of Simancas, where he kept part of his belongings. The author locates the books of the Emperor by means of the inventories of his goods and of the Philip II´s library, and the old catalogs of the Royal Library of the Escorial; and he identifies some of the lost books. Lastly, the author carries out a study of the dynastic, personal and religious aspects of Carlos V through his readings
