The testimony of the elderly, as experienced people and the depository of a good part of a community's collective memory, was always taken into account in inquiries and disputes throughout the Middle Ages. This paper analyzes the case of Medieval Galicia, in which we can see how the role of the elderly failed to diminish, and actually increased, over the centuries. The figure of the vedraio, which is studied at some length, can be seen as a clear proof of this.
