This paper analyses some aspects of royal taxation from 1230 to 1350, using ecclesiastical data from León. This study focuses on the traditional taxes such as fonsadera, yantar and martiniega, all of them payable to the crown. The permanent conflicts between the monarchy and other feudal powers are reflected in the problems of the crown in collecting these taxes. In this period, conflicts with the church, the towns, the nobility, and royal officials {often lacking clarity about the enjoyment of their privileges) are very frequent. These tensions may be seen as a consequence of the centralising tendency of the monarchy in competition with other feudal powers, causing political instability.
