Transformaciones en las instituciones de gobierno local de las ciudades castellanas durante la revuelta comunera (1520-1521)

The author analyses in this article the changes that took place in the composition of the town councils of the main Castilian towns during the years 1520 and 1521, when the revolt of the Comunidades took place. These changes are explained as a consequence of the pressure that the leading sector of the Commoners exercised in order to be allowed to share local power with the members of the noble oligarchy. The author also proves that they had begun to exercise this pressure with increasing intensity during the first two decades of the sixteenth century, when conflicts proliferated in many Castilian towns between the aldermen (regidores) and the new leaders of the Commoners.
